NGC 6397: A case study in the resolution of post-collapse globular cluster cores
نویسنده
چکیده
Model surface brightness profiles based on Fokker-Planck simulations have been used to assess the high resolution surface brightness profile of the globular cluster NGC 6397 of Lauzeral et al. (1992). The profile is well fitted by the model in the maximumexpansion phase of a gravothermal oscillation with a core radius of 0.06 pc (6), but an unresolved core cannot be ruled out. A core this size is also expected in highly evolved clusters including significant numbers of primordial binaries. A more massive cluster will provide better statistics, as would star counts. The greater distance of the other globular clusters and the requirements of star counting will demand very high resolution observations to definitively resolve cores this size.

Monte Carlo Simulations of Star Clusters - VI . The globular cluster NGC 6397
We describe Monte Carlo models for the dynamical evolution of the nearby globular cluster NGC 6397. The code includes treatments of two-body relaxation, most kinds of threeand four-body interactions involving primordial binaries and those formed dynamically, the Galactic tide, and the internal evolution of both single and binary stars. We arrive at a set of initial parameters for the cluster wh...

Our deep Chandra exposures of 47Tuc and moderate exposures of NGC 6397 reveal a wealth of new phenomena for interacting X-ray binaries (IXBs) in globular clusters. In this (late) Review, updated since the conference, I summarize recent and ongoing analysis of the millisecond pulsars, the compact binaries containing white dwarfs and neutron stars, and the chromospherically active binaries in bot...

متن کاملA two - dimensional Kolmogorov – Smirnov test for crowded field source detection : ROSAT sources in NGC 6397
We present a two-dimensional version of the classical one-dimensional Kolmogorov– Smirnov (K-S) test, extending an earlier idea due to Peacock (1983) and an implementation proposed by Fasano & Franceschini (1987). The two-dimensional K-S test is used to optimise the goodness of fit in an iterative source-detection scheme for astronomical images. The method is applied to a ROSAT/HRI x-ray image ...
متن کاملMultiple and variable X - ray sources in the globular clusters
We detect stars from the Hipparcos and Tycho Catalogues in the field of view of observations with the ROSAT HRI of three globular clusters. We use the positions of these stars to reduce the systematic error in the positions of X-ray sources in the clusters to ∼ 2′′ for ω Cen and NGC 6752, and 1′′ for NGC 6397. We detect three X-ray sources in the core of ω Cen, and four in the core of NGC 6752;...
